‘Optibids’ is the acronym for ‘Optimized bi-directional & smart vehicle Charging in local energy system’.

A project of the cooperation; VUB/MOBI, Imtech, Power-Station, inMove2, BluWays, Powerdale, Scholt Energy Control, VDL bus.

Where in order to meet the growing energy needs within the sustainabe limits of the planet’s natural resources and to mitigate climate change, energy systems are currently in transition towards more sustainable systems by accommodating higher percentages of Renewable resources and evolving towards more distributed energy generation. To anticipate such changes, industry and market are looking for solutions for flexible electricity generation and balancing supply & demand.

The electrification of the Flemish vehicle fleet is an essential part in the transition towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly transport stystem and is part of the Action Plan of the Flemish government.

Optibids addresses these challenges by investigating the smart and bi-directional Charging of electric vehicles as part of the solution for suppply – demand balancing in local energy systems. Optibids will do strategic research tot develop intelligent algorithms to predict short- and long-term energy demand and supply of electric vehicles, design and integrate intelligent Charging in local energy systems.

This project will make experimental use of 3 local energy systems test sites of a different nature: the Brussels Health Campus Jette, De Zaat Industrial site of Cordeel Temse  and the VDL campus Roeselare where a production plant of fully electric busses is located.
